This is the thematic beauty of HTTYD. Hiccup realizes that what he wanted all his life, conformity, is not really what would please the real needs inside of him — love and acceptance. In the course of HTTYD, he overturns what defined him, what he thought was his deepest need. This is a huge character growth. It’s just beautiful.
